Jean-François de Galaup Lapérouse was born in Albi on 23 Aug 1741 and died in Vanikoro (Santa Cruz group) in Jun 1788 when the Boussole was wrecked on a reef during a cyclone.. He served in the Marine Royale.

He married Eléonore Broudou.

He received the title of Comte de Lapérouse.
