VICTOR SUTHREN has been a Heritage Consultant and Writer since 1997. Former Historical Advisor to the Canadian History Project, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Author (most recent works) of: The War Of 1812 (Toronto: McClelland & Stewart Publishers, 1999; paperback, 2001); To Go Upon Discovery: James Cook In Canada, 1758–1779 (Toronto: Dundurn Press, 2000); and The Sea Has No End: The Life Of Louis-Antoine de Bougainville (1729–1811) (Toronto: Dundurn Press, 2004). Now writing a major study of the history of Canada and the sea, entitled The Northern Island, for Thomas Allen Publishers, Toronto, to be published in 2008. In 2001, Guest Curator for an international exhibition on James Cook and Louis-Antoine de Bougainville at The Stewart Museum, Montreal. In 1997 appointed Honourary Captain(N) to the Chief of the Maritime Staff, NDHQ, Ottawa, presently designing the ”Colonial Sailor” program of historical pageantry and naval re-enactment, a lead-in program to the Naval Centennial of 2009–2010. Most recently served as Production Advisor (Canada) and on-screen presenter to South Pacific Films’ documentary production Looking For Captain Cook, a Canada-Australia-UK co-production for the History Channel.
